Bittersweet reminiscing

Well it has been on crazy summer thus far! Lets do a quick update on the life of the Betteridge's!

So the summer started off in May when I started summer semester. I am only taking 2 classes for the summer simply for the fact that i think I would die (not literally of course) if i tried to take on a full load. I want to get a better math grade and I am taking a psychology case as well. So here is to hoping these classes won't be destroying my sanity.

May was also started out with some very promising news. As some of you may know, I have been working for Discover(the credit Card Company) for over a year now, and I have to say i really do enjoy the company. Phil even works there too now! Works great with his school schedule and its nice to see your spouse on your breaks instead of texting them. I have been working as a personal Loan underwriter which has been very beneficial to Phil and I in multiple ways. But I wanted a new challenge within the company so I decided to apply for some new positions. One in Particular was in Our Policy and Procedures department, somewhere I would love to promote within the company. the position I applied for would deal directly with attorneys and third party agencies within our recovery department. Upon interviewing, I didn't feel very confident that I got the position, simply because I felt the least qualified out of all the contenders.

Side note:
These other contenders already had MBA's and years of experience with dealing with policies such as this, as well as being with the company longer. Needless to say, I felt EXTREMELY under-qualified.

But I had said a prayer, asking that if this job was the right direction for me to take within Discover to get to my career goals, that the opportunity would be given. One week later I got a tentative offer from the hiring manager, saying he would like me to take the position, but it ultimately was up to my current manager to release me and so the offer was not official, And I wouldn't know for sure until I came back from vacation. This was not good news or bad news, just.... a wait and see.

I couldn't complain though! it meant That I had done something right! I later came back from vacation to find that I had the official job offer and I would be allowed to transfer to my new position as of July 1st, and I would never work another holiday, night, or weekend! SO I was very thankful to heavenly father for opening up this door and giving me such an amazing opportunity.

Now on to the rest of May! The weekend before memorial day, Phil and I went down to Apple Valley to see my youngest sister graduate high school. Now this was a very bitter sweet happening, because there were other reasons for traveling home.
As many know, both of my parents have been members of the spirit world for over a year. Since that Time, My parents' life long friends, Carol And Ron, have been living in My parents home helping with getting my parents' affairs in order as well as helping with Logan and getting through her last year of high school. I am so grateful to them for the fact that they took on such a daunting task when they stand to gain absolutely nothing. They truly are some of the most christ like people I have ever met and I am so grateful for them.
The reason returning home was so unnerving, was because part of getting my parents affairs in order is getting their home ready to sell. Now this may seem like no big deal, but for me it was a lot more than I can bear.
That home was everything to my parents. It was their dream home! They build it themselves, and every memory in that home, was a first memory. Every thing in the home had a story, had sentimental value, and it made returning home difficult simply because, it may have been the last time I would set foot in that house. Our job, was to go through everything in the house to determine who kept what, what was sold, and what went into storage.... and By everything, I meant EVERYTHING! plants, books, useless knick knacks...
There was one point where i was going through all the items from before I moved away to collie. things from high school and middle school, silly little notes i passed in class, photos i dare not share, and timeless mementos of experiences I have had over the years. I could not believe how important some of these things were to me now. I was able to see that even when I was younger and much less mature, I knew that the gospel was my foundation. Everything I had saved, was very closet related to some of the most tender spiritual experiences I have ever had.
I lost my mind a little bit when I found some of the letters that Mom and Dad had written me While I was at girls camp. It was the only things I had that were handwritten from both of them, and while very simple and very sweet, I now have them tucked away for whenever I need a quick reminder that they were proud of me. I still fight with my brain telling me that I have not made them proud in anyway.
After going through our personal belongings, we then went through my parents home, room by room, deciding which of my parents things we wanted to take with us. This was probably the hardest since I couldn't imagine my parents home without any of these things, but Carol and Ron both were so patient with us and our bawling faces and trying to make these decisions.

Then came Graduation day! Logan graduated and we got to attend. It was crazy to me, that since I had started at that high school, there has not been a time in the last 10 years that a Peterson had not attended Granite. We were all so Proud of Logan and we are excited for what she chooses to pursue.

A week after Logan graduated, we drove out To Winnemucca To watch Phil's youngest sister graduate high school! We got to throw her a party and I got to see a little bit more of the little town Phil was from. It was really nice to get away for a little bit.

After returning home to Utah, We attended a special stake meeting where we were placed in a new ward! Apparently, Our previous ward had over 700 members! Thats insane! SO they divided the boundaries a little bit and we were paced into a brand new ward! We were so excited for this opportunity and Cannot wait to see how we can serve the members of this new ward. I will still be acting as girls camp director at least for the summer.

Well, aside from all that, we have had a lot going on, and we still have more to come! IN July we are traveling to Moab, I go to Girls camp, and My sister In law will be moving in with us! SO More updates to come, and I will try to get a few photos up in the next week of our travelings.
